The mission of Prévention CDN-NDG is to offer outreach services to people in the
Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough, and to provide them with the expertise and tools necessary to improve their quality of life. The Prévention CDN-NDG team is committed to embodying the values of compassion, community, diversity, equality, flexibility, responsibility and team spirit in its work.
Prévention CDN-NDG has been working in the neighbourhood for over 30 years and believes in the potential of all young people, offering numerous youth and family programs to foster inclusion, social and educational success.
By joining our team, you will have the opportunity of an experience that will serve your professional development in the community where the values of mutual aid, compassion and diversity are put forward. The Community Intervention Team offers outreach services that are based on openness, listening and non-judgment.
The addiction and substance abuse prevention program is new and will be deployed in specific high schools in the Côte-des-neiges and Notre-Dame-de-grâce neighbourhoods.
It is based on the model that has been in place in Montreal for the past 10 years and is part of a more global development that will eventually serve a maximum number of schools in Montreal.
Under the supervision of the director and in direct collaboration with schools, the candidate will join a young, dynamic and committed team, with the main mandate of launching the program and ensuring its smooth daily operation. The project has three components :
o Universal prevention: the facilitator acts proactively, by using universal prevention actions in classrooms and by organising awareness-raising activities on the subject
o Targeted intervention: the facilitator follows up individual students referred by school staff, according to the intervention protocol established in the school. He/she will take charge of young people referred by community partners or those who make a voluntary request
o Summer and community component: this component of the project concerns the continuity of services beyond the school and during the summer period. The worker is an integral part of the community, even if he/she works during the school year within the walls of a school
He/she will therefore take part in the round tables that affect youth in the neighbourhood in order to contribute his/her expertise in relation to drug addiction and the dynamics of the community in this regard.
The project’s approach to substance use is harm reduction and respect for the school’s code of conduct.
The challenge we propose
o To provide one-on-one intervention to high school students with substance use problems o To create meaningful relationships with young people
o To ensure a daily presence in the youth’s surrounding environments (cafeteria, lockers, etc.) o To work in cooperation with school actors, respecting the roles and responsibilities of each o Conducting prevention workshops in targeted classes and at lunchtime
o To develop and run awareness-raising activities for all students in the school
o To develop intervention and/or animation tools for the programme
o To maintain the database on a daily basis, in relation to the interventions carried out o To write reports and assessments
o To develop and maintain close links with the partner school, all school staff and community partners in the neighbourhood
o To be involved in local youth round tables
o To participate in the organisation’s monthly team meetings
o To respect the requirements of the CDN-NDG Prevention employee manual
o Any other related task
