Drawing from her experience, Selma will tell you about it! She wishes to share her interest and knowledge about the environment through articles published on our website. She dedicates her time voluntarily to write these articles. Thank you Selma!

In her own words: ‘’First, I would like to introduce myself. I’m an environmentalist, I have a master’s degree in environmental engineering which I obtained from ÉTS School. I’m very passionate about environment and water science. I would like to share my knowledge with you.‘’

Environmental engineers … who are they?

Do you know who environmental engineers are, and what they can do for you? The field of environmental engineering doesn’t only include the city’s sanitation department, it is also about plant and animal protection,  cleanliness and so much more. This is a little bit of my career’s story in the environmental engineering field, so that you can better understand who we are.

Environment science and engineering is a multidisciplinary approach. To learn how best to preserve the environment, one studies chemistry, physics, mechanics, math, standards and regulations, management and even philosophy!

I have worked in various companies, and received training which helped me to further discover how interesting this area is. I worked in chemical discharges management, soil decontamination and water treatment. I also conducted an environmental impact study of cement dust on public health. One of the most important projects that I worked on was the ecological conversion of an industrial park in the city of Batna, Algeria. The project created links between industries, as some industrial waste can be processed to be used as raw materials in another industry.

Here in Quebec, my master’s program in environmental engineering was even more interesting. I’ve really improved my research level and my knowledge in the environmental field. I’ve gained experience by working at EVOQA, a water technologies industry. My project focused on optimizing one of the types of filters. These technical and organizational experiences gave me the opportunity to gain a larger environmentalist’s overview: responsibility, analytics and problem solving.

I hope that I was able to convey how vast and interesting this field is! As environmentalists, we work hard so that you can live in a clean space, breathe clean air and drink clean water. We are here to ensure your mental and physical well-being.
