Is one of your new year’s resolutions to be more environmentally friendly? Wondering what you can do to help the planet that’s easy to do? Here are some ideas to inspire you:
Compost: The Eco-quartier NDG staff would like to help you start composting this year. Did you know that we sell composters at a subsidized price for NDG residents ($25!)? No space for a composter in the yard? No yard? Why not consider vermicomposting (indoor composting with the help of worms). We even offer training workshops. Learn how to compost and more!

Reduce your consumption:
• Avoid Junk Mail: Display a sticker to stop receiving the public-sacs and other flyers. You can always consult the flyers on the Internet instead;
• Do not drink bottled water, get a reusable water bottle instead;
• Search for leaks in your toilet that might be wasting water;
• Use only reusable bags (avoid plastic shopping bags as they can take anywhere from 100-300 years to biodegrade);
• Do not use paper napkins; use the real cloth napkins instead.

Maybe you’ve even considered volunteering? Éco-quartier NDG is seeking volunteers to help promote recycling, composting, environmental living, street cleanliness and other neighborhood environmental projects with adults and children. No experience is necessary. We offer volunteer training and an opportunity to learn about different aspects of environmentalism while taking an active role in bettering your community.

We have big jobs, small jobs, and everything in between. Whether you would like to give 1 hour or 10 hours of your time on a weekly basis or whenever you have some spare time, we would love to meet you. Help us build a greener neighborhood!
There are countless more ideas on the internet and on our website.

Let’s make 2016 the greenest year yet!
