Urban Arts Festival Hip Hop You Don’t Stop Festival

The primary mandate of this festival is to engage at-risk youth from disadvantaged areas of Côte-des-Neiges and Notre-Dame-de-Grâce in Montreal by encouraging their participation in positive alternative activities in the fields of urban arts and Hip Hop culture. These various activities offer youth the opportunity to channel their talent and energy towards a constructive means. This section of our Urban Arts program makes it possible for young people to showcase their artistic talents, thus fostering and attitude confident behaviour and self esteem.

In addition, one of the goals of the festival is to cultivate a sense of belonging among these youth toward their neighborhood and to encourage their recognition by their community.

Finally, the Urban Arts Festival Hip Hop You Don’t Stop aims to demystify Hip Hop culture to people in the community, by providing positive activities that dismantle existing stereotypes and negative prejudices sometimes associated to this cultural movement.

The mandate of our Murals service is to offer the owners of vandalized buildings or vehicles an alternative means to repair and solve the problem of graffiti and vandalism, through the services of professional artists. This section of our Urban Arts program not only adds to the beauty of the urban landscape, it also prevents vandalism. We have effectively observed that the taggers respect the fact that artists put a lot of energy into creating these pieces. This ensures that they do not vandalize the walls and vehicles on which murals were painted.

Secondly, the Workshops section aims to educate youth concerning the criminal implications of vandalism. Through these interactive workshops, we educate young people about how to practice art, specifically urban art, in a respectful, legal and constructive way.
