Once again, this year, Transition NDG collaborated with Eco-quartier NDG for the Incredible Edibles project on Somerled. The Transition team worked hard filling the planters with herbs and a few vegetables, checking on the plants every couple of days. They spent many hours watering the plants (it is not as straightforward as one might think). Their hard work paid off, as many residents benefited from the free food.
Other residents were inspired to get involved. Fendi’s hair-salon adopted the planter outside their store, and they grew beautiful tomatoes plants. A local resident had too many tomatoes plants as well, and thus she decided to plant tomatoes at the corner of Somerled and Cavendish, in front of the Royal Bank. It seems another unknown resident took it upon himself to water the bins. We are not sure who it is, but we would like to say a big thank you to him!
The project is also looking for volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to water or plant in the bins next year, please contact us!
